Realizing the fact that Education is the right of any child, the JM& SJM Centre has been working to provide basic education for the children to the slums of Sanjay Nagar, Kurar, Malad East. It was a humble beginning in the year 1986.
On every working day, students are provided with a mid-day meal and the food is prepared and supplied under strict hygiene protocol. This noble humanitarian gesture is very much appreciated by the parents and by students who receive this source of nourishment.
The basic aim of the school is to reach as many lives as possible by providing education to underprivileged students and making a visible change in the society. Several good Samaritans have helped us in this purpose by morally, socially, financially contributing to our society. We sincerely thank and express our gratitude to all the families for their valuable help and humanitarian support to the School.
For weak students and humanitarian help for needy students, special coaching classes are conducted. These special classes are taken after the regular class hours for the academically weak students by the teachers.
A School Picnic is arranged every year under strict supervision and guidance of the School Teachers. Necessary arrangements are made to ensure the safety of the students.
All the top-ranking students are honored and appreciated for their achievement with merit certificates, cash prize, and mementos.
Realizing the need to reach out to adults, the School has organized the Adult Education Program to empower the un-educated mothers. After completing their prescribed syllabus, they are guided to appear for the 12″ standard examination conducted by Yeshwant Rao Open University. It has been observed that they are very enthusiastic in their studies and they were also the active participants in our school events like Annual Sports and Annual Day Functions. Our Adult Education program is lauded by all, especially the Department of Education, Maharashtra State and BMC authorities.
A beautiful Farewell is organized with gifts, lunch and success blessings for the SSC students and motivating them for their prosperous bright future.
The Annual Day function of the school is celebrated in the School Hall with various cultural programs, colorful decorations, a brief report of the year and by congratulating all the students and teachers for their hard work. Top ranking students are awarded certificates and cash prize.
Christmas celebrations are generally held on 22nd of December at the School Hall. Singing Christmas Carols, enacting skits based on the birth of Jesus Christ and respecting the religious faith in him is how the hold day is celebrated.
Annual Sports Day is organized every year for the students to actively participate in different competitions. Ladies from our Adult Education classes also participated in the sports competitions.
A teacher’s day program is held to motivate the teachers and appreciate their service in molding the future of the students in this competitive world confidently.
An orientation program is held for teaching and non-teaching staff after the school reopens. The main objective of the program is to equip and guide the staff in their approach and thereby strengthening the relations between students and teachers.
Important National days like Independence and Republic day are celebrated by hoisting of flags on respective days in the presence of all the teachers and students, reminding the value of our nation and encouraging them to be respectful and proud of our country.
The schools host a Science exhibition at the School hall for the secondary section students to showcase their interests and innovative ideas. All the participants are given certificates for their participants.
The school also schedules Counselling classes is held by an expert or a leading priest.
The St. Thomas Day is celebrated on 6th July and all the children and teachers are informed about the importance of the day with some skits or performance.
Every year a Head Boy and Head Girl are selected for the three houses: Red, Blue and Green and are asked to take oath in the presence of Teachers, students, and Parents.
The school has exclusively instated a new sound system for various programs held in the School Hall.
A modified CCTV system has been installed as per the instructions from the Kurar branch of Mumbai police that covers the entire school premises.
To equip our students in self-defense and for boosting the self-confidence in them, our school started Karate classes in our school.
To face the audience confidently, the school trains the children for public speaking.
The school has installed two water coolers in the school premises that offers cool and hygienic water and has also installed a new drinking water pipe.
Five Parent-Teachers' Association (PTA) Meetings are held at our School every year during June, July, September, November, and January. During these meetings, the parents are informed about their child's academic progress and other related matters. Parents are complete liberty and free to ask about their child's studies. This interaction between parents and teachers streamlines the child's future progress and studies evaluation.
In the year 2017, meetings were held on the following dates 30th June, 25th July, 21st September, 7th November 2017 and 8th January 2018. During these meeting s parents were informed about their children’s' academic progress and other related matters. Parents were free and given full liberty to ask the details of their children’s studies. This interaction helped the parents and Teachers about streamlining their children's future progress and evaluating their studies.
