Overview
Kerala, the land of our origins, also known as God’s own country is a lush green strip nestled on the coast of the Arabian Sea. Kerala is an abode of harmony and peace to people belonging to different religions and faith traditions.
The Mar Thoma Syrian church of Malabar of which we are all proud members is the reformed section of the ancient St. Thomas Church in India with its headquarters at Thiruvalla. Our Church is in communion with the Malabar Independent Syrian Church of Thozhiyoor and the Churches in the Anglican Communion (CSI, CNI etc.).
The Church defines itself as Apostolic in origin, universal in nature, Biblical in faith, Evangelical in principle, Ecumenical in outlook, Oriental in worship, Democratic in administration and Episcopal in character. The Church believes in Jesus Christ, God incarnate for the salvation of the world, and in the Triune God revealed by him, who himself is one among the Trinity.
The Church accepts Holy Bible as the basis for all matters of faith and doctrine, and the Nicene Creed formulated in accordance with the Holy Scripture. The Church cherishes its Oriental heritage and Episcopacy as a gift of God. The Church is regarded as a ’bridge’ church in the Ecumenical world. The Church is at present blessed by the able leadership of twelve Bishops, headed by Most Rev. Dr. Joseph Mar Thoma Metropolitan who is the 21st Malankara Metropolitan to occupy the Holy Apostolic Throne of St. Thomas. The Church is served by 1037 clergy through thirteen dioceses to 1.6 million people (approx). The headquarters is located at SCS Campus, Thiruvalla, Kerala, India and has over a million adherents spread worldwide.
